1) Clean the lens.

2) Try using a higher shutter speed. It could just be you shaking.

3) I don't trust auto-focus unless it's digital. Use your eye.

4) The lower the Fstop the less depth of field in focus. If you want really sharp images? Use a high Fstop and a slow shutter speed with a tripod.

If it's a film camera:

Depending on wether you want high contrast or finer grain. (finer grain= equals sharper the enlargement)

I'd prefere a slow speed film (200-100iso), with a high fstop and a SLOW shutter speed for deep reflections at a distance.

But for higheer contrast i wouldn't go any higher than 400 iso as by then your grain gets to a rediculus size.
